"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."
Jeremiah 6:16 NIV
Liberation
By Jerry Stewart Today we’re remembering and honoring those brave men and women of our military, past and present, who have fought to keep America, you and me safe and free. Since those first shots of freedom were fired by just a handful of brave Americans in 1776, almost 2 ½ million soldiers have died or have been wounded in war. That’s an astounding figure. So many willing to give so much. And we thank you. But, think about this. In the last 100 years, and during our two world wars, our American soldiers haven’t fought just for our safety and freedom, but for the liberation of those people unable to liberate themselves. Brave American soldiers have fought all around the world and suffered and died for the cause of others. In the country of France, alone, there are at least 11 U.S. cemeteries with over 60,000 American soldiers buried there. American soldiers who died on French soil, fighting for their liberation. Our brave soldiers don’t fight around the world for fame or riches or glory. They fight for people. I think it’s safe to say that very few people living in our world today even start to realize just how important the American soldier is to the freedom and safety of all people. The Bible says, "To the person who much is given much is expected." And as a nation, as a people, we have been given so much my Almighty God. We have been so blessed. And I believe one big reason why God continues to bless our nation is because we, as a people, are so willing to give ourselves so freely to the cause of others. And as long as the bullies and tyrants of this world seek to overrun and brutalize the weak and innocent, with God’s help, we will continue to fight.
