"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."
Jeremiah 6:16 NIV
Let Your Character Speak For You
By Jerry Stewart
Listen
It was 1908 when the Boy Scout Code was first written. Since that time they've been working diligently to teach the scouts what they call the Boy Scout Laws. Listen to a few of these.
A Scout is trustworthy. He tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct.
A Scout is loyal and true. A Scout is helpful, friendly, courteous, and kind.
A Scout is obedient. He follows the rules of his family, school and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country.
A Scout is brave. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at him or threaten him.
A Scout is clean. He keeps his body and mind fit and clean.
A Scout is reverent toward God.
Now, these are just a few of the Boy Scout Laws, but it's easy to see how drastically different our thinking is in America today, and we must turn back now if we want to salvage this America we all know and love.
We need to allow Almighty God his rightful place in our Nation. If America is great because God has blessed us, then we need to quit treating him like he doesn't matter. Think about it, with all the talk about keeping God out of public schools, what's the first thing we do when a school's in trouble? We pray to God for help. And no one objects. We must put God back into his rightful place if we want to continue receiving his special blessing.
What our country needs today, more than anything, is not more inventors, or more skyscrapers, or more professors. No, what America needs today is more integrity. And, although many things can be taught in books, integrity can only be taught by example.
It was in 1776 when a man named Chesterfield said this, "Don't speak of yourself, or against yourself, no one will listen. But, instead, let your character speak for you. Whatever that says...will be believed."
