"Saving America" Part 2

By Jerry Stewart When our 13 colonies were still a part of England, a Professor Alexander Tyler wrote about the fall of great nations, and one nation in particular - the Athenian Republic, that had fallen over 2,000 years previous to that, and almost prophetically, Dr. Tyler said this:

“The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been about 200 years. These nations have progressed through the following sequences –

from bondage to spiritual faith;

from spiritual faith to great courage;

from great courage to liberty;

from liberty to abundance;from abundance to selfishness;

from selfishness to complacency;

from complacency to apathy;

from apathy to dependency;

and from dependency back to bondage.”

Now the question is this – “Is this statement true for America? Just where on that sequence of progression is America? And what must we do now to save America?” I believe that if we want our great nation to survive we must:

1. Stop killing our innocent unborn children. Now, we all know the facts - literally millions of unborn babies are killed every year in America under the guise of this procedure called abortion. Oh yes, abortion is legal - but it's wrong. And if you're a pro-choice advocate, hear me out before turning me off. First, abortion is not about a choice of having your baby or not - you already have the baby inside you growing. The choice is whether you're going to let the baby live or not. Now that sounds harsh, but that's because abortion is harsh. And the abortion of the so-called fetus is unfortunately and sadly really the murder of an innocent unborn child. “Okay,” you say, “Maybe abortion is the killing of an innocent child. But just what does that have to do with the disintegration of America?” Well, first of all, it’s in direct contradiction to our very Declaration of Independence which states that each American has the basic right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” And when an unborn child is aborted, that unborn American’s right to live has been taken away - a direct contradiction to our very foundational right as an American. But the issue of killing the innocent actually goes much deeper. If America is a great nation because of God's great blessing, then how can we expect His blessing to continue when we are killing innocent children? It was Mother Teresa who said this about abortion, “I believe the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct killing of the innocent child.”
2. Take responsibility to teach our children who are born. We have the responsibility to teach them the right way and to be concerned with what they are learning today in our schools. It is a fact that all in the name of education and free thinking, many teachers around America today are filling our children's heads with half-truths and outright lies. Now, so many of our teachers are teaching the truth - they're doing an excellent job. But some teachers want their students to believe that our founding fathers were mostly a group of immoral ingrates who stumbled across this idea of freedom in America, and that, somehow, it worked. Some are teaching that our founding fathers were atheist and a moralists who really had no core values at all. And that we today should not be concerned with what they may have to teach us. It was Abraham Lincoln who said, “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next generation.” What America will be tomorrow is what our children are being taught today. Now, I’m not opposed to free thinking. It was Adolf Hitler in World War II who had all of the great books in Germany burned to keep his citizens from learning what others had to say, and that what he was doing was wrong. I’ve never known that much about Benjamin Franklin; I've never read a book devoted only to his ideals and philosophies. But in all my years as a student I was never told once that Benjamin Franklin had high moral values. In fact, one college professor of mine went quite out of his way to teach that Franklin was a man of low moral character. But recently I came across Franklin's autobiography and what I read was quite interesting and enlightening. In the biography was what Franklin called his “13 Virtues for a Lifetime of Goals”. Now these virtues in his own pen are written in an Old-English style, so I've taken some liberties to word them here in our present modern English language. 3. The Responsibility of American Men - One last thought on this idea of teaching. Its time for all men in America to put down the TV remote or the newspaper or whatever is distracting you, and, instead, study what this nation was built on – become a teacher yourself. It's up to the men of America to lead our families in truth, to teach our children who we are as Americans, and what we must do to save our great nation, America.
