On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, two men, Orville and Wilbur Wright performed the seemingly impossible - they flew.

It was the first successful flight of a heavier-than-air self propelled flying machine.

The flight lasted only 12 seconds and travelled just 120 feet - but it was amazing.

Little could the Wright Brothers or anyone then have ever imagined that in their same century, in less than 75 years, there would be planes flying 10's of 1,000's of feet high - planes that were more than twice as long as their first flight. Wow!
