Listen If you're like most of us in America today, you've been collecting the new statehood quarters which are being issued, one for each of our states. And each quarter has a different inscription on it designed by the people of that state. For example, the Virginia State quarter is a picture of the ships which carried the first settlers to Jamestown in 1607.

Listen When we think of the Declaration of Independence most of us don't realize that in 1776 America was a country possessed and controlled by England, who was at that time the most powerful military nation in the world. But the colonists were being heavily taxed and they had no say in the affairs of their government. They had no vote, they had no representation. This is where the saying, "No taxation without representation" came from. The colonists were angry and frustrated that they had to pay excessive taxes to a government which allowed them no say in the activities of of that government.

Listen I wonder what our founding fathers would say if they could walk our streets today. Oh, I'm sure they would be extremely impressed with our growth and technology… It’s very impressive. But just how impressed would they be when they discovered that we have systematically taken all the things they built America on and have driven them right into the ground.

Listen For years our flag has played an important part in our history. It has been proudly carried by Americans into battle. Carrying the flag into battle originally had one very practical reason…it helped the commanding officers to know just where their forces were. But the flag had an even more important purpose… it acted as a rallying point for the soldiers. You see the fighting often centered around the flag and if the soldier carrying it was killed or wounded, others would rally round the flag to keep the enemy from capturing it. Because if the flag was captured, many soldiers would just give up fighting. So, you see, to carry our flag into battle is not just a duty, it’s an honor.
